The Period Caravan held in Siaya County organised by Goshen Kids CBO and Saabiko Group of Friends was a resounding success, bringing together young people for a day of learning, empowerment, and meaningful engagement. The initiative reached hundreds of girls and boys and was anchored on five key thematic areas: mental health and wellness, menstrual health education, leadership and career guidance, as well as sports, creative arts, and talent development.

 

Throughout the day, participants engaged in interactive sessions designed to address both their practical needs and personal development. The mental health component created a safe space for open conversations, helping young people better understand their emotions and learn healthy coping strategies. These sessions emphasized the importance of seeking support and fostering emotional wellbeing.

Menstrual health education was a key highlight of the event. Sanitary towels were distributed to all girls in attendance, ensuring that they have access to essential hygiene products. Facilitators also conducted practical demonstrations on the proper use and safe disposal of sanitary towels, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining hygiene and dignity to both boys and girls.

In addition, leadership and career guidance sessions encouraged participants to think about their future, build confidence, and explore their potential. Activities in sports, creative arts, and talent development provided an opportunity for self-expression, teamwork, and enjoyment, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere.

The event was further enriched by entertainment, interactive activities, a tree planting session and shared meals, allowing participants to connect, relax, and fully engage in the experience.
